LCP

The South East Local Learning and Employment Network Local Community Partnership (SE LLEN LCP) is contracted by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) to work closely with schools, local businesses and community organisations to help 13 to 19-year-olds gain skills, experience and professional guidance as they move through and beyond school.

Working under the Career Advice Australia banner, the SE LLEN LCP works to implement support services by:

-                     Increasing young people’s participation in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) programmes;

-                     providing key stakeholders such as schools and other education institutions an innovative range of Careers and Transitions Support (CTS) services; and

-                     establishing Adopt-a-School Programs (ASP) that partner schools with business.

Where appropriate, the SELLEN LCP will also develop and implement strategies and/or activities that provide opportunities for young people to increase their awareness of the changing skills needs of industry, especially in emerging industries.

LCP Programs in more detail:

The Structured Workplace Learning programme provides students with structured learning and development opportunities in a real or simulated work environment. By being involved in Structured Workplace Learning, young people gain a better understanding of the world of work, and have a great chance to develop their technical and general employability skills. The SE LLEN LCP has developed a range of pre- and post-placement services that are offered to schools that are aimed at enhancing the quality and effectiveness of the SWL Programme to stakeholders in the South East.

Under the Career and Transition Support programme, the SE LLEN LCP work closely with schools in Melbourne’s South East to make sure all young people have access to a range of career development and transition support services.  The SE LLEN LCP is currently rolling out a broad range of innovative and exciting initiatives that will enable the LCP to provide a comprehensive careers and transitions programmes for all members.

Through the Adopt a School Programme, the SE LLEN LCP encourages businesses to adopt a school in their area, and engage young people in hands-on learning experiences.

lcp-intro-yth-skills.jpgThe programme builds strong and ongoing partnerships between businesses and schools, which ultimately benefit all those involved. Students are given the opportunity to gain real experience, learn about the career opportunities open to them, and find out about the kinds of skills employers are looking for.  On the other hand, local businesses gain experience in working with today’s young people and have a hand in shaping their future workforce. The SE LLEN LCP is continuing to develop strong school – industry partnership programmes in key vocational areas so as to enable more sustainable partnerships between schools and industry.
