Careers
Cleeland Careers
www.cleelandsc.vic.edu.au/careers/
What is it?
Produced by the the careers teacher at Cleeland Secondary College it contains templates for letters of application and resumes, a calendar of careers events, advice on career planning and links to all the key careers resources.
For whom?
Designed for a school students it would also be a useful resource for parents and teachers.
How does it rate?
The design is simple, low key and quick to load. No fancy graphic design is employed as this site is an information resource and portal to other essential resources.
Interest and usability rating
Youth Employment Link (YEL)
What is it?
Produced by the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and Training (DE&T). Contains Career and pathways planning advice and a job seek function.
For who?
Designed for a youth target market, the complexity and design makes it probably more of a tool for careers counsellors and careers teachers. Not really parent friendly.
How does it rate?
Good effort with some interesting features including a chat room and a “great career hunt” competition. The Resources search section is low impact and demands some internet knowledge to action. Overall, the site is slow-loading and some unexciting design makes this a fairly standard government website effort.

Future Search
New Commonwealth Government jobs web site, including job search, resume building and apprenticeship links
Job Juice
What is it?
Produced by the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Employment and Work Place Relations, the site includes links to Career Quiz’s, resume building programs, vacancies, Job Seeking tips and Apprenticeship information.
For who?
Designed for a youth target market, the site links together a range of job related Commonwealth Government web sites.
How does it rate?
This site is really a re-designed front end for the same old sites. Some the sites that Job Juice links to are of some use to young people - particularly the Source, which is an interesting and well designed youth interest and support site. However, WHEN will govenment understand that slow loading sites and memory hungry gimmicks and images really are a turn off for many users, particularly young people who are paying by the hour at an internet cafe or accessing the site from a clunky school library or home computer.
