What is SELLEN?

The South East LLEN is a community managed membership based regional network funded by, and working in partnership with, the Victorian Learning and Employment Skills Commission (VLESC) and the Commonwealth Department of Education, Science and Technology (DEST). Our members include the majority of school and agencies in the South East of Melbourne who work with young people aged 15-19 years old.

We have two key aims.

Firstly, we seek to build the retention of young people across the South East in education or training to Year 12 or it’s equivalent to at least 90% of the youth population. Secondly we will work with our network partners to make sure local young people have the best possible and broadest range of school to work transition supports available to them and their family.

The main focus of your work is to build and facilitate partnerships and networks between our members ( Schools, employer and community agencies) to make sure that programs and strategies are in place to support the easy and effective transition young people from school to work. In pursuit of this, we seek to ensure that work experience and work placement programs across the region are effective and that young people are easily able to move from school to TAFE or other training organisations or into apprenticeships.
SE LLEN’s role includes research into, and the development of, programs which assist 15-19 year olds in Melbourne’s South East region to successfully make this transition from school to work / further training or study.
