Languages and Multicultural Education Resource Centre (LMERC)

The Languages and Multicultural Education Resource Centre (LMERC) is a specialist resource centre for schools.

LMERC has been providing services to Victorian teachers and other school staff for close to twenty years. Each year 750 teachers, educators and pre-service teachers borrow more than 25,000 items. These include books, posters, CDs, DVDs, policy documents and realia (cultural artefacts). This service is available at no cost.

www.education.vic.gov.au/studentlearning/programs/lmerc/ provides information for teachers, educators and pre-service teachers on the resources and facilities offered by the centre. It includes details of the materials that can be borrowed, a guide to its collections, an online catalogue, a services guide and essential contact details.

“Old Hands, Fresh Faces – New Beginnings” - A workshop looking at Culture, Employment and Opportunities for Refugees and Migrants from the Horn Of Africa.

Come along, listen to and be a contributor at a forum which will look at the challenges, barriers and advantages of engaging recently arrived migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa.  Employers are particularly invited to attend and contribute their views.

Participants will include WorkSafe, Match 2 Personnel, community leaders & current employers

Youth Change Makers – grants

Applications are now open for The Foundation for Young Australians Youth Change Makers grants.

Youth Change Makers is a grant round supporting young people who are advocates for change in their community, with assistance of up to $10,000 per applicant group 

Individuals or small groups of young people aged 12-25 may apply for a Youth Change Maker grant.  This can be done with the support of an organisation, for example, a community organisation or school, enterprise, youth group, or local government.   Applications for Youth Change Makers are now open and close 6 October 2008.
